For 2009, we've taken our 40B and made it a bit lighter and a bit faster. This is the pack of choice for folks with shorter torsos for cragging and big weekends close to home. The 40B now uses a 210d Dyneema ripstop on the side panels, which reduces weight without sacrificing durability.
The 40B responds to the desire of folks like Kelly Cordes and Max Turgeon for a pack that would work for Alpine Cragging or serious routes in more civilized areas. The 40B is the same size and volume as our award winning 40L WorkSack, but replaces the front access zipper of its brother with an internal compression straps of the other WorkSacks.
The semi-rigid front panel helps the internal compression strap transfer loads as well as the larger WorkSacks. The 40B is sized for smaller folks, or those with smaller volumes of gear. It is a robust and durable pack that is less than two pounds for use as a light hiking bag today and in the years to come.
The suspension on this pack is the same as on the 40L pack.
